Then I heard the voice
of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will
go for me?" and I said, "Here I am. Send Me!" - Isaiah 6:8
Three basic needs of every team member
Flexibility.
Mission trips rarely go exactly as planned. Sometimes flights can be delayed; finding yourself stuck in a strange airport
for 3-4 hours is not fun. Or when you get to Nicaragua, you will find out the village you thought you were going to had a
terrible rain storm making the road impassable and you are assigned to another one. And when you get to your village you discover
that many of your supplies didn’t make it with you. Yes, all of these things and many more happen on every trip. But
it doesn’t stop you from doing what God called you to do. So you just roll with it and continue on. Yes, flexibility
is a key to being a good team member.
A Love for People. Our purpose is to serve the Lord and His children.
From the time you leave the airport until you return you’ll be giving of yourself. This can be life changing. Never
in your life will you experience a week like this. We work for others for 8-10 hours a day in very inclimate weather. Typically
you’re giving up your vacation, time, labor and money. But the rewards are huge. You will see the smiling faces of the
children and the thankful eye from the adults. Men may come up and try to repay you by giving you fruit. Old women will embrace
you and the children will hug your legs. You’ll discover that when you return you received so much more than you gave!
A
Heart for Evangelism. No you don’t have to be an evangelist, but we are a Christian organization. Every team will
have pastors with them who will bring The Good News. Our belief is that we need to minister to the spiritual needs of the
people as well as their physical needs. Does this mean you need to be a Christian? No. However, we hope that you would have
an open heart to know Christ better. It is not uncommon for team members to develop a closer relationship with Him through
our mission trips.
